More excellence from the man Wood (the Younger), the Bath Assembly Rooms are just about as prestigious as the city gets. Built in 1771, the rooms were the headquarters of the city’s finest back in the day, a place where the movers and shakers of high society went to be seen, the nightclub of the 18th century. The building is made of Bath stone and arranged in a U shape, a peculiar design characteristic that was a hallmark of the younger Wood, and it served a number of functions in the centuries since completion, before being restored to its original form in the 20th century. The Fashion Museum is found in the basement.
