Arnold Rikli Monument

  Straža hill     22 Apr 2024
Arnold Rikli was a 19th-century Swiss naturopathic pioneer who believed in the healing power of nature's elements. His innovative approach to wellness emphasised sunlight, fresh air, and water therapy long before they became trendy hashtags. Rikli's methods weren't just about curing ailments; they were about rejuvenating the spirit.

Rikli lived in Bled for over 40 years, from 1852 until he died in 1906. He established a renowned health resort in Bled, attracting visitors seeking the therapeutic benefits of the town's natural surroundings and climate.
You can find the monument dedicated to him perched atop Straža hill, overlooking the enchanting lake like a guardian of holistic health. Visitors can ascend the hill via a charming walk, and once surrounded by lush greenery, one can't help but feel the serenity that Rikli himself must have cherished. It's a reminder to embrace the healing balm of nature in our modern, often hectic lives.

If you find yourself in Bled in early July, you can join the annual group hike that is arranged on the first Sunday of the month, and enjoy some of the same experiences as Rikli’s patients over 100 years ago. To immerse yourself further with some of his atmospheric therapies, try getting up early, walking and breathing fresh air, sunbathing, and swimming in the healing water. A step further would be a vegetarian diet and nudism, but we’re guessing the latter won’t be for everyone. An easy one to follow when in Bled is to simply breathe in the crisp mountain air, and let the tranquillity of the monument inspire your own journey toward wellness.
