The Gerbeaud is a Budapest institution, and rightly so. It's been in business since 1858, but there's nothing out-of-date about the authentic hunger pangs their delicious cakes inspire. Customers line up at the counter, like gazelles nudging for drinking space at the watering hole. Yet all is civilisation. The 19th century décor and treats like the six-layered Dobos chocolate cake make for an excellent afternoon's indulgence and this is a place for serious dessert and chocolate lovers as the Gerbeaud confectioners are constantly coming up with ravishing and innovative new bonbons.
