Prague In Your Pocket

Greetings dear visitors, and welcome to Prague! The country is winding down its six month helm at the EU presidency and as of June 30 will pass the crown to Sweden. It’s been a rough few months for the country; mainly due to political infighting, but some accomplishments were made and no overtly embarrassing gaffs occurred. Really, what more could you want?

The Czech Republic isn’t only Prague you know; how long are you in town for? The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is on tap 3-11 July. If you miss it, go see the town anyway; it makes a good day trip and an even better overnighter. Look left for our lowdown. There are a couple out of town sporting events that might pique your interest this month too, check out the sports section.

But Prague is fabulous; it’s okay not to leave. We’ve rounded-up all the best cultural happenings, events, concerts, and what have you; see for yourself in our cultural section. Many concert halls and theatres shutter their doors in July and August. All the more reason to make sure you get tickets to the Prague Proms International Music Festival at the end of July. A schedule can be found to your left in the Prague Proms section.

Feeling the economic pinch? Maybe that’s why you chose to visit our fair city; TripAdvisor readers recently voted Prague the number one bargain destination. And you thought we were just cheap. Cities TripAdvisor members want you to avoid? Paris because they are unfriendly; London thanks to the bad food and Brussels, simply because they are boring. Thank goodness with all the eye candy architecture, outdoor cafes, parks and hopefully lots of sun; it’s easy to wile away the inexpensive hours here. Check out this month's Pocket Watch for a Prague park tour.

Whatever your budget and whatever the weather – have a beautiful summer!

Just been ripped off 1000 CZK at their bar in Ostrovni by the bar-maid. Did not notice until i left. She gave me change for 1000 CZK instead of the 2000 CZK i gave her - the bar was dark and she was very friendly, making me lower my guard.[...]
