One of the many delightful things about Ireland is that, because of its long and eventful history, it is littered with countless ruins and relics more than a millenium old, and Clonmacnoise has got to be one of the most outstanding. Founded by St Ciarán in the 6th Century, this tremendous site includes the ruins of a cathedral, several churches, two round towers, three high crosses, castle ruins and the largest collection of early Christian graveslabs in western Europe.
