A throwback to the Soviet-era, the market area behind the train station is where locals go to get spare parts, used clothes and sides of beef. This is one of our favourites for local colour but enter at your own risk.

I enjoyed my visit and picked up some nice Soviet-era memorabilia. As well as old stuff there are plenty of modern goods from t-shirts to boots sweets and hats. Indoors there are plenty of stalls selling meat and other produce. If self-catering it would be a good place for ham cheese etc. Quite a few stallholders are Russian-speaking rather than Estonian-speaking.
Also you can find cheap & nice old coins, Soviet memorabilia and similar there - but, as said, enter at your own risk, although the place is quite secure due to security men walking around.
