This Drinking Life

While neighbouring Sopot is undoubtedly the queen of Tri-city nightlife, Gdynia has a fair selection of options which, though not so concentrated in one area like Sopot, do offer a little more variety. While most of the nightlife is concentrated near the sea around Al. Jana Pawła and Skwer Kościuszki, there are a bunch of less rowdy bars worth searching out.

Cyganeria was once a hotbed of political activism. The student agitators of yesteryear have grown up and the place has been given a new fresh, modern look but this is still a bit of a local legend. Another legendary venue is Desdemona, a magnet for anyone with literary and artistic pretensions.

Head to the bars down by the beach. We don’t list all of them as there are a bunch all offering loud music and beer during the warmer months and they're much of a muchness. Contrast and Pokład are the most famous, most popular and the best of the bunch.

Donegal is probably the most authentic Irish pub for miles, and though they lack Sky Sports they do show English league matches courtesy of Canal + and Polsat Sport. If booze figures more importantly than sport then weave your way to Degustatornia Dom Piwa, an underground haven of obscure world beers.

You don’t have to be on a hot date to enjoy Cafe Strych, but it certainly helps. This fisherman’s cottage is both quaint and a good night out thanks to a more laid back clientele and friendly staff. If you want a little more modern search out Srodmiescie which offers a good selection of food to help your date go well.
