The City Chambers were completed in1889 and are the HQ of the City Council, they’re located on the eastern side of George Square. The buildings are an eminent example of Victorian civic architecture. Take the time to join the twice daily tour, no need to book unless you’re part of a large party. Marvel at the pillars of marble and granite which give way to staircases of marble, freestone, and alabaster, and a ceiling decorated in gold topped by a stained glass dome. It feels more Doge’s Venetian Palace than council digs, and all the better for it.
