Exit Groningen's train station and you can't miss the so-called Stadsbalkon or city balcony: an elevated platform with trees poking out. Beneath the undulating slab of concrete designed in 2007 by Rotterdam's KCAP lies the city's largest underground bicycle parking garage with space for no less than 4,500 bicycles. The bike path to the station cunningly passes right through the parking lot. The light and transparent design and 24-hour security make it a safe spot day or night. A famous old statue, Het Peerd van Ome Loeks (Uncle Loeks' Horse) can be found beneath the trees.
