Black Forest Bakery

  126 11th St, Parkmore      +27 11 883 1109     more than a year ago
Launched in 2016 in Parkmore, this delicious German bakery and cafe is the northern suburbs off-shoot of the Black Forest Bakery who for more than 40 years have run a bread factory with a small hole-in-the-wall bakery counter in Braamfontein. With the launch of their dedicated bakery and cafe on Parkmore's main strip 11th Street there's more space to settle in and enjoy their famous collection of super-authentic traditional German baked goods.

The Black Forest story goes back to post-war 1940s Germany where at the age of 14 a young, ambitious and passionate Werner Speer started his apprenticeship learning the fine art of German bread baking. In 1970 Werner arrived in South Africa and he and his wife bought a small coffee shop in the Joburg City Centre where Werner then shared his baking skills and talents. Everything is still baked as Werner was first taught back in the Black Forest town of Pforzheim. The bakery's team of artisan bakers lovingly handcraft all items and everything is made exclusively with natural ingredients.

Among the many, many highlights that deserve a place in your shopping basket are the classic pretzels, a multitude of different rye breads, Berlin-style jam doughnuts, irresistible orange cake, strudel and traditional biscuits like spekulaas.
