Goodman Gallery welcomes a new artist to their stable, Rio de Janeiro-based Laura Lima, ahead of her first solo show on the continent. In How To Eat The Sun and The Moon, Lima explores mythology, nature, and the transformation of materials over time through a series of large-scale textile pieces. The suspended fabric structures are imbued with the artist's research on Brazilian folklore from the countryside of her childhood, while her interest in the natural world comes through materially through the use of plant and vegetable dyes.

Having worked across multiple mediums over her two-decades-long practice, Lima's work is an ongoing interrogation of the conceptual frameworks that we as people use to make sense of reality. An intimate engagement with materiality also characterises her art-making, where the nature of organic matter, degradation, and the passage of time are all part of the process.

How To Eat The Sun and The Moon opens at Goodman Gallery in Rosebank on Sat, Mar 16 from 10:00 – 14:00.
