Moritzbastei

  Universitätsstraße 9      +49 631 70 25 90     more than a year ago
The last remaining piece of the city’s fortification wall built in 1553 under the orders of Elector Moritz. It was made with stones from abandoned monasteries and reached four metres thickness in some places. Although the wall proved a lousy defensive measure, Moritz’s visionary genius was finally confirmed in the 1970s, when students turned it into Europe’s largest club.
