Located on Mestni Trg and housed in a beautiful 16th-century townhouse originally built by Count Lanthieri, the expansive premises have been a municipal art gallery since 1963. The gallery began forming its own diverse collection of primarily 20th-century Slovene art in the early 1990s, which now numbers some 200 works. The gallery's annual exhibition programme usually includes two retrospectives of Slovenian artists as well as group and solo exhibitions by artists from both home and abroad, whilst every three years there are thematic historical exhibitions that aim to present the development of a certain artistic element, style or theme. Also find a café and large reading area.
