Some fantastic Munich art treasures are housed in this Tuscan villa once owned by renowned painter and native son Carl von Lenbach, whose widow sold it to the city in 1929. Today you can see changing exhibitions and Lenbach's own work displayed in rooms ornately decorated with silk wallpaper and gilded ceilings. Paintings from as early as the 16th century can be found here, but the true gems are the colourful Blue Rider works by Kandinsky and Münter. The Lenbachhaus website is currently only in German, but more English information can be found at www.europeanmuseumguide.com.
