The Arc de Triomphe is the world’s biggest triumphal arch overlooking the Champs-Élysées. Commissioned by Napoleon Bonaparte in the 19th century to commemorate the victory at the Battle of Austerlitz, it is a symbol of the military power of France. On the 14th of July every year the spectacular Bastille Day Military Parade begins at the triumphal arch and the Tour de France finishes along the legendary avenue under it. You can either walk around it for free or pay a fee to climb to the top for stunning views over the city.
