Seat of Wisdom

Frans Fransenstraat     more than a year ago
An uncommon sculpture of Mary and Jesus clings to the wall of a former school building on Frans Fransenstraat. Jesus sits on his mother's lap as a not-so-young child and Mary has her right hand on a sceptre and wears a crown on her head, while Jesus scatters a blessing over all of mankind from her left leg. In Latin this sculpture is called Sedes Sapientiae, or Seat of Wisdom. The 3m-high neo-Gothic image was created by local sculptor Hendrik van Geld in 1895.
