Belgrade
is one of the oldest cities in Europe, famous for its extraordinary position, turbulent history and fantastic night life. It lies at the confluence of clashing cultures, where east meets west, and the Sava flows into the Danube River. Belgrade’s greatest asset are warm-hearted and hospitable Belgraders.
Its name (
Beograd) means White City.

Belgraders emerge from the bosoms of their loved ones over a week into the month but with plenty to look forward to in the period coming up. Arguably, the highlight of the calendar around this time of year is the International Film Festival – FEST, held in February, when locals flock to cinemas in their hundreds to catch the hottest new treats on celluloid.

Anyone keen on going should get to the box office as soon as the tickets go on sale as they are invariably snapped up very quickly by Belgrade’s film-mad punters. This year’s (the 38th) festival starts on February 19 and lasts until the February 28.

Further details on the event can be found on the Culture & Events pages of this edition of Belgrade in Your Pocket.
