Summer can be the best and the worst time to visit Amsterdam depending on whether or not you like crowds. At this time of the year it seems that the streets and canals are teeming with tourists eager to discover one of the world’s most fascinating cities. This, of course, means that it’s a good time to meet new people, but unfortunately you might have to do this while queueing up at one of the city’s renowned museums.Yes, you will have to wait a while to get into the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum or the Anne Frank House. If, however, you’d like to escape the multitudes then you might consider a short tram ride to some of Amsterdam’s outlying districts, but bear in mind that parks in far-flung areas of the city are also prime locations for summer festivals. If this sounds appealing then check out the Loveland, Appelsap and Kwaku festivals in Zuidoost, Oost and Nieuw-West this summer.
