More than 700 mostly foreign students live on the university campus just outside the city centre in the former Kromhout Kazerne. This turn of the century military base used to be part of the Dutch Water Defence Line, but since 1998 has housed hundreds of young people from all corners of the world. And although it still belongs to the Dutch Ministry of Defence, students can go wild on the premises and often do. Two communal eating and drinking venues are also available. The student-run pub, The UCSA College Bar, is where all the action happens at night, while the giant dining hall provides three meals a day throughout the semester. The prices of the meals are much cheaper than anything you'll find downtown and the colourful interior is hard to beat. Naturally, the food isn't trendy or organic, but it will definitely fill you up.
