This oddly-named branch of the Kraków Museum is a sort of thesaurus - a collection of synonyms, or, better yet, a collection of objects synonymous with Kraków - but the title actually translates directly to 'Treasury of Kraków' in Latin. Perhaps in response to increasing accusations of 'heritage mismanagement' aimed at museums that keep the overwhelming majority of their vast collections in storage, far from the public's view, the Kraków Museum has created a modern storage facility that can actually be visited like any other branch. Although much of the space is off-limits to most visitors, and the sightseeing route is only accessible with a tour guide, many items which would typically be unseen indefinitely can be viewed here thanks to specially designed storage displays and cabinets. In the large underground part of the facility, visitors will see the enormity of the Museum's szopki (nativity scene) collection set in glass cases, while the ground floor stores numismatics (coins), weaponry and graphic, and upstairs is a warehouse for paintings and fabrics. In some areas you can see employees conducting conservation works, the multimedia room hosts the Museum's digitised collection (Digital Thesaurus) and the facility also holds a meeting room for workshops and lectures, as well as a cafe. Far west of the centre, this branch is open on Saturdays only.
