Holy Trinity Church & Basilian Gate

Aušros Vartų 7b     more than a year ago

Consisting of a church, monastery, belfry and beautiful Rococo gate, much of it in a state of glorious disrepair, the Holy Trinity Church originally dates from 1514 and features elements of Gothic, Baroque and Neo-Byzantine architecture. The church, which was extensively altered after a serious fire in the middle of the 18th century, belongs to the Uniates or Eastern Catholic Church, a peculiar faith which fuses together many Orthodox beliefs whilst recognising the Pope as God’s representative on Earth. A total mess inside, the doors are seldom open these days, but it’s worth a quick wander round the ensemble even if you can’t get in. The elaborate, 17.9m gate was built in 1761 to a design by Johann Christoph Glaubitz (Jonas Kristupas Glaubicas, c.1700-1767).

When I was watching the current Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity(Ausros Vartu g. 7b, Vilnius) photos, I noticed that church's central tower dome being missing from the old photos. I wonder if missing reason of the central tower dome is a neglect of the Soviet regime or a destruction of the World War 2. Is there a possibility that the central tower dome of Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church will be restored in the future? Thank you.

also at 16:00 on Sunday there is service/ holy mass in polish language .It is important to know also, there is the holy painting of God mercy , "Jezu ufam Tobie" ( Jesus I trust you) painted on the base of the dream of Nun Faustyna Kowalska on 22.02.1931 .During that dream Jesus ordered her to paint his image form her dream and He said "that the soul who will worship that image will never die" , so she did. The holy painting was taken from Holy Spirit Church in Vilnius to present Holy Trinity Church in year 2005.
