Mostar was a city within the Ottoman sphere of influence for over 400 years, and there are many architectural reminders of those Islamic centuries dotted around town. None display the high end of Ottoman life better than the Muslibegović House, situated on a small bank east of the Karađoz Bey Mosque. It was in such regal surroundings that the noblemen lived, with ostentatious rooms and as much light as a building can possibly provide. The Muslibegović family moved here following Herceg Novi’s fall to the Venetians at the end of the 17th century, but the residential complex actually dates to a century later. There are a number of well-preserved artifacts inside, but it is the sheer elegance that really captivates.
