Rixwell Hotel Konventa Sēta

  Kalēju 9/11      (+371) 66 77 88 68     more than a year ago
With foundations that were once part of the medieval city wall, the sprawling Konventa Sēta (Convent Yard) stands its ground against Riga's many hotels. A maze of hallways joins nine historic buildings, and leads to a variety of rooms, some with original oak beams. Standard amenities are available as well as disabled and non-smoking rooms, not to mention plenty of shopping and eating options in its extensive courtyard. Apartments with kitchenettes are also available.

You can pay a higher rate for a room in the historic part of the hotel or a lower rate for a room in the dormitory-style building across the courtyard. I've tried both and they offer good value for money. Sometimes the streets outside are quite noisy during summer nights because of all the night life on the surrounding streets and the hotel was (not sure if this is the case now) a destination for some of the louder more raucous "stag party" type tourists from the UK. That said a weekend in February in one of their suites at the winter price provides a welcome mid-winter break. During the summer it can be idyllic as long as the street noise is not too loud.
